Laptop buying regime ....

Hey All,

I've been thinking of buying a laptop for a long time and was looking for a good machine to own. The hunt started with requirements like Internet, Office Applicationds and mails. So started the hunt for the laptop with some of the options. Here is the process I followed let me define it as "Laptop Buying Process" you can treat it as Laptop buying guide [;)]

Laptop Buying Process

- Decide your budget

I decided mine upto 500 £ maximum

- Decide your applications and usage.

Mine was as mentioned earlier; internet, office applications and mails.

- Decide if you want more portabiltiy or features. Is it going to be a replacement to your desktop or is it going to be completely mobile applications.

I was a little confused for this point, as if I want a light weight then I wont get features and if I go for features I will get heavy weight so ...

Pause: Laptop Buying process

At this point you pretty much have a baseline of what you should start looking for. Depending on your location you should look out for avaialble options online.

Here is what I used:

and many more ... but I am sure www.google.com wold be the best way to start if you are now aware abouy the vendors in your country.

So, what do we do after going to these sites ??? here is what should be done

- go to Laptop Category
- Filter the price range first I used 350£ - 550£, now here is where your budget is a little shaken because you tend to filter it a little higher then your budget to make sure you do not missout a good deal. Be careful though
- Filter Screen size you would like depending on your decision if you want mobility or desktop replacement
- Now its time to use your instincts, what brand have you heard / experianced in past ? and what do you prefer out of the list ? filter it. I was quite clear on what I wanted so I filter it to HP / Compaq and Dell home use

After all this, you should pretty much have 15 - 20 options. Now its time to go to Level 2 for filtering.

Option 1: Go to individual Vendor's site and view detailed specifications of the model you find online. These sites are pretty much easy to understand and navigate hence it will be easier for you to choose them according to the description given by vendor about it's capabilities and applications. Or go to advance way of doing it

Options 2:

- Filter it using processor type.

Now how do you decide which processor you want in your laptops, this is like deciding the heart of processor or engine in the car.

First note down the avaialble options Eg: Intel pentium / Dual core / Core 2 duo / Amd Athlon / opteron / Tuerion / ARM Processor etc.

To continue this, you need to go back to your decision about your applications. After referring back to your decisions and applications its time to use www.google.com

User search tags such as Intel Dual core 5800 VS AMD Tuerion X6400

You will get number of sites, and you need to look out for comparison charts. These charts give you mostly all the options that are listed in your applications. After referring to the results you can filter them as per your preferences.

So now its time to filter them using processors.

After filtering it you will be down to Memory and Hard drive preferences.

Remember, memory can be easily upgraded so dont bother about it much, choose it as per your hard drive preferences.

Thats it, job done.

End of Laptop Buying process

After all these I filtered down to few models and then was final on Dell Inspiron 1525 with all the features I wanted.

Boom......

Some thing triggered andthen I thought I should have a little better options for my Graphic card in order to play games and do video editing and photo editing. This made me get into detailed specs more and more. I wanted all ... Nvidia Graphic card, HDMI port, eSATA port and many more features.

After all that, I found the right machine I wanted. Dammn it was way expensive so now I was in a terrible situation ... what to do ... what to buy .. what not to buy ...AAARRRGGGHHHHH

Hmm .. .so no one but myself had to decide waht to do.

Here is what I did

Bought a Sony Play station 3 for a bargain price from a colleague which was almost like new.
Decided to buy Dell Inspiron 1525 for about 450 £

But guess what, still changed my decision on laptop a while back. I bagged a great deal by Dell. A Dell XPS 1530 Gaming machine with great specs. Awaiting delivery within 7 days......

Will soon post more details on PS3 and Dell both.

cheers!!

SQL Restore fails using Commvault Galaxy

Problem: SQL Restore fails using Commvault Galaxy
Platform: Windows 2003 Server (32 Bit)
Error: Query Result [ERROR:
Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000) Error: -2147217440
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
IDispatch error #3552
].

Solution:

1) Change the user name and password for Galaxy Agent using Commcell

In Comcell GUI > Client Computers > Client name > SQL Server > DB Instance > Properties > Accounts

2) Verify if user name used by comcell has "master" access on the server

Windows Management > Users >Select User> Properties > Master

SQL restore fails using Commvault Galaxy

Problem: Commvault server fails to restore data base on the SQL Client
Platform: Windows 2003 server (32 bit)
Error: Network error

Hi folks,

This is one of the brain shattering issue with SQL restore using Commvault Galaxy. We had a nightmare doing so.
The SQL server was part of a cluster, so the idea is to restore one of the failed clients as a DR process. Commvault had number of reasons why it cant do it, but the whole idea of having a backup is to restore it in a disaster situation. So after a long struggle, and trying every possible thing we figure out the solution to the problem

Here it is:

1) Increase VDI Time out on the Windows server to 30000 Sec

This can be done in commvault > Client computers > Client name > SQL agent > Instance properties > VDI Time out

Default value is 300 and you can increase it upto what u want.

2) Setup Data Ineterface Pair in Commcell (commvaut Galaxy)

This can be done using a Galaxy Control panel > Data Interface Pair

Hope this becomes useful to someone and save them a week to head bang with Commvault Support.

Thanks,

That is where I belong

I wrote a small poem while I was watching out of the window, it was snowing and it was Sunday afternoon here in Scotland.....

the city that never sleeps, and doesn't get tired,
where life is busy but one can get more than desired,
that is where I belong

Where day rises with neighbour's alarm clock,
followed by laughter session and morning walk,
the place where all the strangers talk,
that is where I belong

the sea shore that is like city's necklace and covered with concrete tripods,
where there are million of individuals and many of them oods,
that is where I belong

Where traffic cop is pandu,
catches one without helmet saying "kya re gandu"

where mobile rings at 3 in the morning just to hear from a friend "kya chaal raha hai",
and passers by shouting the begger "Ye kya kar raha hai",
where every issue is addressed with "lagi padi hai", and every mistake is "jhol ho gaya hai"

that is where I belong

there is "amar" for a tava pulav and tapri for a cup of tea,
thela for "chat" and "vada Pav" on rekdi,
Bechain ki sandwich, bhagvati ki pav bhaji,
Mumbai ....... India ..... That is where I belong.................

Wanna be back soon.......

GM Diet!!! Results

Hey all,

so after all the tough days and schedule and diet. Plenty of water and too frequent visits to loo.... I finally could loose only 2 kilos after the end of the diet.

I do feel more lighter though, so I would say it worked for me first time ... and it worked for me 2nd time too. But this time ... instead of loosing more weight, I think I notice more difference in inches. It may be an illusion, but anyway.

I think I should stick back to my regular diet and don't try any more crash diets, as it seems to be ridiculously difficult and take a lot of efforts.

So, I would recommend this diet to someone who has a very high FAT in the body, as its quite use full to shell off in such case. But someone with average body type and decent BMI, its not that effective.

My first experience was good when I lost about 4.5 kilos but at that time the FAT ratio in my body way way high then now.

So that's all I can say,

Cheers!!!

GM Diet!!! Day 7 - Final Day

ding dong!!! Finally I reached Day 7 ... the final day of the diet. Day 6 was not too tough passed away ... but i had little more rice them allowed with plenty of veggies. Could not resist eating as I was feeling really really hungry.

Also, there is harldy 2 kilos weight loss after 7 days of GM diet, but I notice difference in inches around belly which is a good sign.

During all these days, I skipped only one day for work outs ... otherwise I was working out everyday so even the gain in musles reflects on weight and wont let me loose a lot of weight but fat loss was good i suppose.

Anyways.... was a good experiance once again ...

Hope to shell off some more fat and improve on BMI [;)]

cheers!! Will post tomorrow the total weight loss....

GM Diet!! Day 6

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!

I am sick and tired of it now ... I could not resist eating yesterday ... almost lost patience but then realised that its day 5 and I have slogged for 5 days to achieve something and now at this stage I cant give up.

Thats the reason I said its the most difficult day... day 5 was really hard for me. Just once cup of rice and 6 tomatos ??? dammn a toddler would eat more then that in a day. So as an addition to it I had a bowl of Veggie soup along with an apple.

but hey .... its Day 6 and now I can eat all the veggies and additional a cup of rice ... wow!! Looks like its gonna be easy peasy for me ...

will keep posting....

btw, I checked weight this morning I am down by 2 kilos so far so doesnt look like I am anywhere near to the target (5 kilos)

cheers!!

GM Diet!!!! Day 4

Aye!!!

Day 3 was really bad, I was out working at another site and the traffic killed me while driving back home. Couldnt manage to work out either. To regain the strength I had to eat a full bowl of salad (750 grams) + cooked veggies about 750 gms.

After a while I got back into my senses and there we go it was almost the end of the day.

So, here I am on Day 4 I dont see any changes in weight so far (quite nominal so far) but feels a bit lighter in terms of inches. Now I dont know if its true or illusion.

Its the most difficult day as I have to survive on Banana and Milk, nothing else.

Hope to get through this soon,

will keep posting!!!

Cheers!!

One Bedroom Flat

WRITTEN BY AN INDIAN SOFTWARE ENGINEER..

A Bitter Reality

As the dream of most parents I had acquired a degree in Software Engineering and joined a company based in USA, the land of braves and opportunity. When I arrived in the USA, it was as if a dream had come true.

Here at last I was in the place where I want to be. I decided I would be staying in this country for about Five years in which time I would have earned enough money to settle down in India.

My father was a government employee and after his retirement, the only asset he could acquire was a decent one bedroom flat.

I wanted to do some thing more than him. I started feeling homesick and lonely as the time passed. I used to call home and speak to my parents every week using cheap international phone cards. Two years passed, two years of Burgers at McDonald's and pizzas and discos and 2 years watching the foreign exchange rate getting happy whenever the Rupee value went down.

Finally I decided to get married. Told my parents that I have only 10 days of holidays and everything must be done within these 10 days. I got my ticket booked in the cheapest flight. Was jubilant and was actually enjoying hopping for gifts for all my friends back home. If I miss anyone then there will be talks. After reaching home I spent home one week going through all the photographs of girls and as the time was getting shorter I was forced to select one candidate.

In-laws told me, to my surprise, that I would have to get married in 2-3 days, as I will not get anymore holidays. After the marriage, it was time to return to USA, after giving some money to my parents and telling the neighbors to look after them, we returned to USA.

My wife enjoyed this country for about two months and then she started feeling lonely. The frequency of calling India increased to twice in a week sometimes 3 times a week. Our savings started diminishing. After two more years we started to have kids. Two lovely kids, a boy and a girl, were gifted to us by the almighty. Every time I spoke to my parents, they asked me to come to India so that they can see their grand-children.

Every year I decide to go to India… But part work part monetary conditions prevented it. Years went by and visiting India was a distant dream. Then suddenly one day I got a message that my parents were seriously sick. I tried but I couldn't get any holidays and thus could not go to India ... The next message I got was my parents had passed away and as there was no one to do the last rights the society members had done whatever they could. I was depressed. My parents had passed away without seeing their grand children.

After couple more years passed away, much to my children's dislike and my wife's joy we returned to India to settle down. I started to look for a suitable property, but to my dismay my savings were short and the property prices had gone up during all these years. I had to return to the USA...

My wife refused to come back with me and my children refused to stay in India... My 2 children and I returned to USA after promising my wife I would be back for good after two years.

Time passed by, my daughter decided to get married to an American and my son was happy living in USA... I decided that had enough and wound-up every thing and returned to India... I had just enough money to buy a decent 02 bedroom flat in a well-developed locality.

Now I am 60 years old and the only time I go out of the flat is for the routine visit to the nearby temple. My faithful wife has also left me and gone to the holy abode.

Sometimes I wondered was it worth all this?

My father, even after staying in India, Had a house to his name and I too have the same nothing more. I lost my parents and children for just ONE EXTRA BEDROOM. Looking out from the window I see a lot of children dancing. This damned cable TV has spoiled our new generation and these children are losing their values and culture because of it. I get occasional cards from my children asking I am alright. Well at least they remember me.

Now perhaps after I die it will be the neighbors again who will be performing my last rights, God Bless them.

But the question still remains 'was all this worth it?

I am still searching for an answer.................!!!

START THINKING IS IT JUST FOR ONE EXTRA BEDROOM??? LIFE IS BEYOND THIS DON’T JUST LEAVE YOUR LIFE ……..START LIVING IT …….LIVE IT AS YOU WANT IT TO BE …….
